Dear Mara:

On behalf of the entire Rockville Metro Group, we take this opportunity to thank

you for the generous gift of your time and outstanding artistic talent to improve the

"home" the Group operates and maintains for the benefit of recovering alcoholics and

drug addicts.

Your ongoing project to convert three walls of the auditorium where most of our

30 or more meetings per week are held into a meaningful mural portrait of the Twelve

Steps is commendable.

Most outstanding to date, of course, is your rendition of "Footprints in the Sand"

ove-rlbokihg the central meeting area. This beautiful mural with its ocean and beach on

one side, interfacing with palm and pine trees and the mountains on the otber side, is a

source of comfort to ma~ souls reaching up for that Higher Power to help them heal

from years of despair sometimes bordering on desperation. .

We know that you devoted more than two months of your time in 1999 to sketch,

paint and perfect this precious 11 x20-foot piece of art as a gesture of gratitude for the

work we all do together to help one another recqver - we call it "service work" in the

category of a donation of time and talent essential to the success of each individual's

program for maintaining the sobriety it has been so difficult for some of us to attain.

Special tribute is paid to you and your work by those individuals who come

regularly to sit and gaze at the Footprints mural in a state of meditation. Then there was

the young couple who reinforced their marriage by repeating their wedding vows in a

ceremony in front of our Footprints.

We are all grateful to you for such a wonderful, loving, meaningful contribution to

our charitable cause. Your generous donation will serve people seeking recovery for

many years to come. We look forward to the finished masterpiece as you continue the

project artistically defining the Eleven Steps to a spiritual awakening, followed by the

Twelfth Step outreach to help others.
